Grain Size
The properties of the PCD material can be manipulated by changing the size of the diamond powder before sintering. Surface finish of the wire and life of the die vary the most with changes in grain size. Read More
Carbide vs PCD vs SCD
Wire drawing dies are made of several materials including tungsten carbide, natural diamond, synthetic single crystal diamond, and polycrystalline diamond (PCD). Here are the facts on each and our recommendations.
PCD Insert (Nib) Sizes
Polycrystalline dies use an abrasion-resistant PCD insert (nib) at the core of each die. Typically the selection of the insert is based on the hole sizes for the die (new & recut sizes).
Grain Size
The properties of the PCD material can be manipulated by changing the size of the diamond powder before sintering. Surface finish of the wire and life of the die vary the most with changes in grain size.
Geometry
Reduction angle and bearing length are determined by materials and area of reduction.
Max hole size
We often are asked about the largest hole size that is possible with a given PCD insert. Click here to learn more about what we offer by way of wire die sizes.
Casings
Custom casings can be made at little to no upcharge. Adaptors can also be provided. Click here to learn more.
